The Centre for Film and Media Studies is a dynamic and rapidly expanding department at the University of Cape Town.

Undergraduate majors - Film studies and Media and wrtiting
We offer two majors, in Film Studies and Media and Writing in the Faculty of Humanities. Students may elect to major in either or both of these courses.

Film and Media Production Programme.
Production training is offered in the sought-after Film and Media Production Programme. Students apply for admission to the production programme in their second year, when they elect to be considered for either the video, print, radio or interactive media production streams. Short video production courses are also offered during the summer term (Dec/Jan).

CFMS students run the first African version of the Globalist student magazine (other versions are produced at Yale, Cambridge, Beijing, Sydney) and participate in exchanges with the University of California system.

Postgraduate studies and research
Our staff are involved in a range of exciting research projects. We offer taught postrgraduate courses in Honours/Masters in Media Theory and Practice, and an Honours in Film Theory and Practice or Film Studies. A new taught Honours/Masters in Political Communication is now being offered. Masters and PhD are also offered by dissertation only. Please contact Robyn Udemans for more information.

Applications to UCT close on 31 Oct (for UCT students) & 30 Sept (for international & SADC applicants).
Postgraduate applications for taught courses close on 3 November.
